Update on our Digitization Project

Ellen from Backstage Library Works is in the library scanning historical photographs that will become a part of the Illinois Digital Archives.  Most of these photographs have never been scanned and will be new to anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to visit the library’s local history room.  Once Ellen finishes, we will begin working on adding the metadata descriptions, then send our work to Springfield where it will be added to the state’s digital archives.  We are very excited to have this new archive of local history images online and are expecting to have the project completed and accessible by early 2009.  We’ll keep you up to date on the status of the project.

For now, go to our Flickr page where you can view a new map we’ve made.  Most of the photographs have been given geographic locations so you can now see a historical map of the village.  We don’t know where some of the photos were taken, so if you spot your house in one of the bungalow photos or if you think we’ve made a mistake, leave a comment either here or on the Flickr page.
